Slimming World Update – Week One

If you’ve followed me for a while you know I did Slimming World last year, for a good few weeks, but then I found out I was pregnant and the cravings set in, so I ended up leaving the group and completely giving up.

Now that Rory is 4 months old, I figured I’d start to get into healthier eating habits so that I can have more energy to play with him as he gets older, plus to support him eating healthy when it comes to weaning and once he’s older.

While I was pregnant I shot up to my biggest weight, 16st and 1lbs. To date, I have lost 1st 2lb just from giving birth and I think breastfeeding for 9 weeks helped me shift some more too, as I did get down to 14st 6lbs but I gained some back after quitting so my start weight for Slimming World was 14st 13lbs.

I restarted my Slimming World journey on Monday, 30th of October 2017, with my first group being Tuesday, 31st of October (yes, Halloween!)

As I walked through the doors, I met my lovely consultant Pam, who welcomed me into the group, weighed me (14st 13lbs) and did my new member talk to just refresh my memory as it had been a while since I last did Slimming World.

I didn’t stay for the group as I’d accidentally booked a hair appointment 30 minutes after the group started (oops!) but Pam was understanding and just asked me to stay for the group the week after.

If you haven’t ever done Slimming World I’d recommend staying to group as much as you can as I find it really helpful and it also gives you some fab ideas for the weeks ahead, plus you can meet some new people there who are also on the same journey as you.

The first thing I did once I got home after group was batch cook, I found some recipes on the slimming world site and doubled or tripled the ingredients so that I had plenty of sauces to freeze, this way, if I had a busy day I could just grab something out of the freezer, knowing exactly what was in the tub and knowing I was protecting my weight loss by doing that.

The recipes I chose this month were:
Bolognese Sauce
BBQ Sauce
Marinara Sauce

I just did the sauce parts of the recipe, leaving out any meat as I’d cook that fresh on the day.

I also decided to portion up my mince and chicken into bags so that I knew I’d take one tub of sauce (with 2 portions in it) as well as one bag of meat and that was my meal all ready to prepare, plus it helps my fiance as he does some of the cooking too!

So my meals for the month are (in no particular order):
Spaghetti Bolognese
BBQ Pulled Chicken/Beef
Home-Made Meatballs and Spaghetti
Tuna Pasta Salad
Egg, Chips & Beans
Jacket Potatoes
Roast Chicken Dinner

I had to choose meals that fit in with my family, as my fiance is eating the same meals as me, to help support me and it makes it easier not having to prepare two different meals every night.

Fast forward to today, Tuesday 7th November I had my first weigh in! I was really nervous as I always am for my first weigh in, did I pick the right meals? Did I weigh everything correctly? Is the fact Star Week is approaching going to affect things? Lots of things going through my mind!

I was however, rather pleased with the result, In my first week I lost a grand total of 3.5lbs! I’m hoping since I am rotating the same meals every week, I would get around 3lbs a week at least off so I am aiming for my half stone award at next weeks weigh in, wish me luck!

Now, every week I am going to share my favorite meal, syn treat, Slimming World hack or just something I learned in group and this week is about a very naughty tasting treat that is only 4 syns!

I love microwaving a Fibre One chocolate brownie flavour, for 15 seconds to soften it up more and warm it a little bit and then topping it with lots of strawberries. It’s heavenly and honestly doesn’t seem like only 4 syns worth! I love having that on an evening with a coffee using the last of my HEA.

So that’s it! My first week all completed, now onto the next one…
